首先，自学是我们拓宽眼界，增长知识的一个有效途径。我们可以根据我们自己的具体情况自由地安排时间以及调整进度。比如作为一个大学生，我们可以每天利用一些空闲时间来自学除了专业知识以外的其他学科，与此同时，通过自学其他学科，我们还可以拓宽我们的专业知识。
其次，自学是培养我们思维能力和管理能力的一个过程。自学就是我们在没有他人指导，通过个人努力获得知识或技能的过程。因此，在这个过程中，我们需要自己做选择，自己安排和控制时间，自己思考各种各样的问题以及自己找出不同问题的解决办法。总之，自学基本上都是关于我们自己的。
最后，自学是保持学习的一种方法。正如俗话所说：“活到老，学到老”。我们的学校生活总有一天会结束，只有通过自学我们才能一直保持学习。因此我们都需要形成自学的习惯，这样我们才能每天都有所进步。
